Win or lose, top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza is sticking around, signing a new eight-fight contract with the world’s largest fight promotion on Friday in Kansas City.
That’s where “Jacare” is slated to meet fellow 185-pound bruiser Robert Whittaker as part of the UFC on FOX 24 line up (details), which takes place inside Sprint Center this Saturday night (April 15, 2017).
Souza (24-4, 1 NC), who rose to power under the Strikeforce banner prior to the dissolution of the San Jose-based organization, is 7-1 for UFC with six finishes, including last February’s submission win over Tim Boetsch.
No doubt the Brazilian needs a big win this weekend on FOX Sports 1, in order to kepis seat warm on the middleweight bus. While Yoel Romero — responsible for Souza’s loss at UFC 194 -- is still ahead of him, things got complicated when Georges St-Pierre showed up asking for belts.
Now it’s just a waiting game.
