Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight we’ve got UFC commentator and comedian Joe Rogan sharing fond memories of the late Charlie Murphy, Conor McGregor allegedly in a treehouse after a three-day bender, Jon Jones fat-shaming Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes’ tiny dog, Demetrius Johnson contemplating Cody Garbrandt, and much more.

Joe Rogan remembers Charlie Murphy, who passed away today from leukemia, pretty well. According to the caption, “Charlie was explaining to UFC fighters Maurice Smith and Ivan Salaverry the benefits of the "Chicago ridge hand" strike.”

Murphy sharing combat techniques with UFC fighters makes sense because it’s Charlie Murphy.

This BossLogic tribute pays homage to one of the funniest Charlie Murphy stories ever.

Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy.

Bobs and Weaves

Is this really McGregor, in a treehouse after a three-day bender? Sure looks and sounds like him, and he WAS in Liverpool partying.

Calm down, calm down... I'm here all week.

In fact, this picture on top of a rented Rolls-Royce is going to cost him.

Anderson Silva having a little fun with it. He always did say his most interesting opponent would be himself.

Nunes’ little dog in it’s sweater looks adorable and also very nosy.

Quick Quotes

Demetrius Johnson was asked about fighting Cody Garbrandt for UFC Tonight, and he seemed to think the conflict was inevitable:

Johnson on if he’d like to fight bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt: “If he came down to my weight and get title shot, sure. I’m never going to turn down a fight. Once I break record, then maybe I’ll move up to 135 in a year or two.”

Daniel Cormier had some thoughts and some trash talk for Jon Jones and Jimi Manuwa

“I believe the division is two guys, me and Jon Jones. Jimi Manawa has done a good job, but he lost points for wearing that sweat suit. It’ll be me and Jones, the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC.”

On who he wants to fight next: “I’ll fight whoever. I’ll fight Jones, but I don’t know if he wants to fight me for his first time back after being gone so long. You saw how he looked after coming back and fighting Ovince Saint Preux.”

On what weight he’ll fight next: “I’m not going to fight heavyweight. I’ve got to manage my weight better. I haven’t been very active. I’ve had too many days at UFC TONIGHT, eating at the craft table. I’ve got to manage my weight and make it become routine again.”

Yeah, he surely does need to manage his weight better the next time, after pulling an old wrestler’s trick out of his hat to lose the last 1.2 pounds and retain his belt.

In light of that situation, Jon Jones found this funny:

Tom Duquesnoy will make his debut this weekend, and the two-division BAMMA champion comes with considerable hype

Kyoji Horiguchi fights in RIZIN now. This highlight is mesmerizing.

RIZIN is a fun product with fun fighters.

I thought this was real for a couple seconds but it looks like a work. Chuck Wepner, incidentally, was part of the inspiration for Rocky after his surprising showing and knockdown against Muhammad Ali.

Stories to Contemplate

  • This high school baseball coach saw his kids messing around in the locker room with some MMA techniques, so he offered to show them how it’s really done. He choked a kid unconscious, and then he got arrested. Full story here
  • Snoop Dogg says he’ll walk out with Jon Jones when “Bones” fights Cormier
  • Jack Slack’s GIF-heavy Robert Whitaker breakdown is awesome
  • Michael Bisping tried to compare Weidman’s actions in the Mousasi knee controversy to the time Anderson Silva kneed him in the head, conveniently forgetting that Silva’s knee was entirely legal, and the result of Bisping trying to game the system by spitting out his mouthguard. If he had stayed down, Silva would have won by TKO, which was what Silva was trying to game the ref into doing by celebrating prematurely, a la BJ Penn-Sean Sherk. But that’s okay, Bisping. Not every analogy is perfect.

Random Land

I laughed harder at this than anything I’ve seen all week. Everyone handles failure differently, but his response to just run through the hurdles without even attempting to jump them is possibly the most relatable response ever. Although, the guy to his left who knocks down every single hurdle and never gives up trying is also hilarious. I especially love that even the “screw it” approach still tripped him up. Then he just ran the rest of the race in the other guy’s lane.
