Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently put the finishing touches on its upcoming UFC on FOX 24: "Johnson vs. Reis" mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza, which takes place inside Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, TODAY (Sat., April 15, 2017).
UFC on FOX 24 will be headlined by the Flyweight title fight pitting long-time champion Demetrious Johnson opposite top contender Wilson Reis. In UFC on FOX 24’s co-headliner, Rose Namajunas looks to turn away streaking Strawweight striker Michelle Waterson.

Round 1: Reis southpaw, Johnson (currently) orthodox. Mostly leg kicks on both sides so far. One minute in. Right hand from Johnson a minute in. Good body kick from the champion. Two minutes in. Nice takedown from Reis off a caught kick, but Johnson pops right back up. Teep by Johnson. Left hook from Johnson inside, avoiding Reis’ combinations. Two minutes to go.
Leg kick by Johnson, currently running circles around the challenger. Straight right from Johnson. Well-timed shot by Reis, Johnson stuffs it and lands some good knees to the body with a minute to go. More solid right hands. 10-9 Johnson.
Round 2: Reis still pressing forward, but he can’t seem to lay a finger on the champ. Johnson grabs the rear waistlock, loses it. One minute in. Reis changes levels, denied and he eats a knee. Body kick by Johnson. Johnson with a straight right and left hook. Another cracking right hand. Superman punch lands and he grabs the rear waistlock. Reis tries to roll through but loses his grip two minutes in. Reis shoots, denied once again. Counter left finally lands for the challenger. Johnson comes bakc with a counter right. Another straight right rattles Reis. Two minutes to go.
Nasty body kick from Johnson. Reis is a very, very good fighter and Johnson’s jjust leagues ahead. Straight left lands clean. One minute to go. Low kick and left hook. Johnson lands a hard knee to the body and follows Reis down when he pulls guard, blasting him with elbows. A hard right lands at the bell. 10-9 Johnson.
Round 3: Johnson blocks a body kick, lands a low kick. Overhand left by Johnson, who stuffs another shot and waves him up. Leg kick by Reis, straight right catches him yet again a minute in. Another straight right and he stuffs another Reis shot. Body kick and right hand. Body kick once more. Two minutes in. Reis with a body kick, nearly takes a shin to the head. The UFC stats state that Johnson’s outlanding him 4-to-1. Johnson continues to potshot and scores a takedown, immediately moving to side control. Two minutes to go.
He stands, then comes back down with a hammerfist. He briefly gets the crucifix and lands elbows. Left hand by Johnson. One minute to go. Nice punches and elbows. Nasty shots and he’s split Reis open. Full mount for Johnson, pouring on the hurt. Johnson slams home blows, then spins for a vicious armbar that forces the jiu-jitsu standout to tap.

115 lbs.: Rose Namajunas vs. Michelle Waterson
Round 1: Right hand lands for Waterson in the early going as they trade kicks. Nice side kick from Waterson, who hits a head-and-arm throw. One minute in. Namajunas looking to take the back from there, manages to do so. Waterson rolls and regains guard. Two minutes in. Waterson pulling her guard up, looking for mission control. Good elbow by Namajunas. Waterson’s trying to turn for an armbar, but the fence is stifling her towrk. Two minutes to go.
Nice elbows from Namajunas, who postures out of an armbar attempt. Waterson still looking for it, manages to make her way back to her feet with a minute to go. Oblique kicks from Waterson. Nice right hand from Namajunas. Waterson continues to attack the legs and Namajunas takes her down into guard. 10-9 Namajunas.
Round 2: Waterson falling back on her kicks, staying on the outside. Good low kick by Namajunas. Right hook from Waterson, but Namajunas fires a combination and blasts her with a head kick that drops her hard. Waterson gets her wits back in time to lock Namajunas up in guard and survives the follow-up onslaught. Two minutes in. Waterson works her way to her feet, but gives up her back and Namajunas slaps on the rear naked choke for the finish.
Final result: Namajunas def. Waterson by submission (rear naked choke)
185 lbs.: Ronaldo Souza vs. Robert Whittaker
Round 1: Souza patiently moving forward. Whittaker threatens a combination and circles out. Left hook lands for Whittaker. Right hand by Jacare on the break, can’t get the takedown. One minute in. Wheel kick attempt. He presses Whittaker against the fence, fishing for underhooks. He changes levels and rolls for a takedown, but can’t bring him down. He tries a more traditional inside reap and takes him down, taking the back, but Whittaker slips out the backdoor and they resume in the center. Two minutes to go.
Whittaker knocks Souza off-balance with a flurry. Front kick from Whittaker. Souza looking for his favored overhand right, lands one on the break. One minute to go. Glancing front kick lands for the Brazilian. Whittaker goes low-high. Good left hook. 10-9 Whittaker.
Round 2: HUGE 1-2 AND DOWN GOES JACARE. He appears to go out on the mat, but manages to tie up and Whittaker lets him up. Whittaker stuffs a takedown. Uppercut and left hook rock Souza once again. Head kick lands clean, Jacare continues to circle away. Left hook by Whittaker. Body kick. Two minutes in. Souza throwing very little, looking to counter. Two minutes to go.
Counter right from Jacare, who leans into another head kick. He’s badly hurt and he pulls guard. Whittaker pounding away and the referee steps in when Jacare rolls to his knees. Weird timing on the stoppage, but Jacare was taking a beating.
Final result: Whittaker def. Souza by TKO (head kick and punches)
145 lbs.: Renato Moicano vs. Jeremy Stephens
Round 1: They begin by trading leg kicks. Stephens looking for power shots. One minute in. Inside leg kick lands for Moicano. Outside this time, Stephens trying to come back with right hands. Back to the inside as Stephens switches stances. Solid right from Moicano as they exchange. Stephens chasing, still eating leg kicks. Two minutes in. Stephens with a leg kick. Hard low kick and straight right knock Moicano back. Another leg kick. Two minutes to go.
Moicano circling near the fence. Leg kick connects for Stephens, Moicano answers in kind. He ducks a right elbow and takes Stephens down into guard. Now to half guard and Stephens grabs onto a kimura. One minute to go. Stephens trying to crank on it, but can’t pull the arm free from Moicano’s body. 10-9 Moicano.
Round 2: They come out trading shots. Hard right hand by Moicano, who changes levels to no avail. One minute in. Solid low kick from Stephens. Moicano with a body kick. Stephens backs him to the fence, can’t land clean through the guard. Leg kicks from Moicano. Two minutes in. Stephens with an inside low kick. Not nearly as much coming back from Moicano as in the first round. Two minutes to go.
Left hook from Stephens as Moicano tries a knee. The crowd’s not happy with Moicano’s unwillingness to exchange. They trade in the center, Moicano comes out a bit ahead. One minute to go. Stephens lands a right hand on the counter. Two more leg kicks for Stephens. 10-9 Stephens.
Round 3: They trade until Moicano grabs a bodylock and takes Stephens down into guard. One minute to go. Stephens works his way to the feet and takes the center once again. Leg kick from Stephens. Stiff jab from Moicano in return. Two minutes in. Moicano ducks down, Stephens uses double unders to shuck him off. Brief attempted clinch. They trade low kicks. Stephens with a solid right hand on the fence. Two minutes to go.
That jab has busted Stephens’ nose. Left hook from the Brazilian. Stephens with a grazing right. Counter left hook by Moicano. Counter right as Stephens leans in. One minute to go. Stephens rips a right to the body. He answers a stiff jab with a straight right and a low kick. Big 1-2-3 from Moicano. Moicano tries a takedown at the bell and they trade big hits. 10-9 Moicano.

265 lbs.: Roy Nelson vs. Alexander Volkov
Round 1: Volkov fires a head kick, lands a right hand and grabs the Thai plum. Nelson digs to the body and they separate. Front kicks to the body from the Russian. Nelson shoots a minute in, putting him on the fence. Nelson has double underhooks. Volkov regains one and reverses position, looking for knees. Two minutes in. Nelson hits an outside trip and brings Volkov to his rear on the fence. He tries to stand and Nelson pulls his ankle out from under him. Two minutes to go.
Nelson staying heavy. Short lefts land for him and he looks for the crucifix. One minute to go. Ref stands them up with twenty seconds to go. Nelson slings a right hand, but Volkov tears into him with a brutal combination. Nelson lands a knee-rattling right hand of his own, but Volkov continues digging in with knees and punches until the bell. 10-9 Nelson.
Round 2: Stiff jab by Volkov. More. Nelson already has his mouth open and he shoots in, pressing him against the fence. One minute in. Nelson looks for the hips, Volkov defending well so far. Snap kick to the body by Volkov when they separate. Two minutes in. Another good body kick. Nelson shoots once again, Volkov denies it and lands a jab. Two minutes to go.
Nelson with a right to the body. Front kick by Volkov, then more jabs. Overhand right by Nelson. Another, Volkov shakes it off. 1-1-2 lands hard for Drago. Right to the body. One minute to go. Volkov with a counter combo. That jab’s working well. Body kick. Nelson looks for a single-leg, nothing there. Volkov smacks him with a combo before the bell. 10-9 Volkov.
Round 3: Nelson plodding after him, flinging out his right hand. Nelson shoots, stuffed, eats a knee on the fence. One minute in. Volkov flicking out kicks, eats a left hook. Head kick and jab. Volkov smacking the body, goes high with the front kick and punches. Two minutes in. Volkov continues to work his jab, attacking the body and legs with kicks. Nelson so far totally ineffective this round, eats more body blows. Two minutes to go.
Nelson shoots, eats a knee. Volkov breaks his grip and cracks him with knees. One minute to go. Volkov flicks out more body kicks. Straight left, uppercut, leg kick. He lands some more body kicks in the waning seconds. 10-9 Volkov.

135 lbs.: Tom Duquesnoy vs. Patrick Williams
Round 1: Williams very mobile in the early going, looking fro rapid combinations. He changes levels, denied. Next takedown, an outside trip, gets Duquesnoy to the mat. Duquesnoy makes it to his feet, eats some shots once there. One minute to go. Duquesnoy stalking forward. Williams head kick blocked. Right hand to the body by Williams. Knee to the body from Duquesnoy. Two minutes in. Straight left and leg kick land for Duquesnoy, but Williams catches the latter and drags him down. Williams looking for the back, can’t keep him down. Brutal right cross drops Duquesnoy, who pops back up and continues his advance. Two minutes to go.
They trade knees to the body. BIG counter uppercut cracks Williams, who eats an elbow on the fence afterwards. Straight left by Duquesnoy, who looks for an elbow in teh clinch. Another knee trade, then a Duquesnoy leg kick. Solid right hands by Williams inside, answered by elbows. Williams already has his hands on his knees and walks into an uppercut. Hard elbow from the Frenchman. Big knee to the body and nasty elbows to the face, the last of which knocks Williams silly at the bell. Assuming this isn’t over, 10-9 Duquesnoy.
Round 2: Hard overhand right from Williams, who eats a body kick, knees, elbows. Massive elbow behind the ear sends Williams to his knees and one more punch brings the referee in.

155 lbs.: Bobby Green vs. Rashid Magomedov
Round 1: Low kick from Green early on. Good 1-2 from the Dagestani. Counter right lands. They tie up and Green knees the body before taking Magomedov to the fence. One minute in. More knees from Green, who takes one to the nards. They resume in the center. Side kick by Magomedov. Two minutes in. Well-timed jab knocks Green down as he kicks the body. He pops right back up. Two minutes to go.
Good left hand and low kick by Green. Heavy counter right meets him. Green avoids a head kick. One minute to go. Counters land for Magomedov, good right hand in the clinch. Green drags him to a knee, goes to work with knees on the cage. He looks for a takedown, can’t quite slam him down. 10-9 Green.
Round 2: Jab from Green, counter jab and 2-1 by Magomedov. One minute in. Combination lands for Magomedov, good body shot. Doing better this round. Green catches a knuckle in the eye and claims a poke, prompting Yamasaki to threaten to take a point. Magomedov doing better in the punching exchanges two minutes in. Leg kick from Magomedov. Hard 1-2, then a 3 behind it. Green shoots in and puts him on the fence. Two minutes to go.
Knees from Green, who tries to swing on the break. They clinch and Magomedov hits a takedown, only for Green to scramble out. One minute to go. Body kick and straight right land for Magomedov. Another right hand. Wheel kick whiffs in the last few seconds. 10-9 Magomedov.
Round 3: Head kick lands for Magomedov with the toes. Long left from Green. Body kick by Magomedov. One minute in. Magomedov lands a counter right, eats a counter in return. Green catches a kick and lands a knee to the body. Another knee from Green, who walks into an overhand right. Two minutes in. Counter left hook by Magomedov, right hand by Green. Green with a left hook as they exchange noncommittal punches and kicks. 2-1-body kick by Magomedov. Two minutes to go.
Green lands a groin shot, Magomedov elects to continue right away. Body kick lands for him on the restart, then a heavy hook downstairs. Good combos low and high. Left hook, straight right land. Right hand, body kick, left hooks. Green comes back to the head and body. One minute to go. Green puts him on the fence and goes back to kneeing the thigh. They separate with twenty seconds to go. Superman punch Magomedov and he lands a flying knee to the body in the last few seconds. 10-9 Magomedov.

125 lbs.: Tim Elliott vs. Louis Smolka
Round 1: Elliott hits an immediate takedown and takes half guard. He looks for a guillotine, using it to shut down Smolka’s attempt to stand and take side control. Smolka spins to his feet, eating a boatload of knees along the way. One minute in. Smolka goes for a throw, hits it on the second try but is forced to sit out and return to his feet. Elliott latches onto his waist and Smolka goes for a Kimura, can’t get it and gets taken down. Two minutes in. Smolka works his wy up once again and latches onto a guillotine when Elliott next shoots, using it to take top position and nearly mount before Elliott scrambles up. Another scramble and Elliott’s on top in half guard. Full mount, but Smolka gets to a knee and Elliott grabs the front headlock. Nice elbow by Elliott. Two minutes to go.
Another single-leg by Elliott, but Smolka hits the switch and looks for the back. Elliott scrambles up and hits yet another takedown. One minute to go. Smolka works his way into top position, lands a good left hand, and gets full back mount with thirty seconds to go. Smolka cracks him with some hard ground-and-pound and they engage on the feet. Great round. 10-9 Elliott.
Round 2: Smolka pressing forward with combinations, shoots into a guillotine that Smolka rides to top position. Smolka adjusts and transitions to a Marcelotine, can’t get it but secures half guard. Elliott works his way to the feet and hits another takedown into side control. Smolka pops up and looks for an up-elbow. One minute in. Another takedown from Elliott and he looks for a rear-naked choke. Smolke rolling, looking for top position as Elliott grabs the Yoshida-style crucifix. Full mount for Elliott, but Smolka transitions to a straight ankle lock. Elliott waits it out and scrambles into side control. Smolka works his way to his feet, lands a body kick and a 1-2. Both men tired, unloading arm punches. Another takedown from Elliott. Two minutes to go.
Smolka looks for a guillotine from guard, rolls Elliott over but can’t keep him there and surrenders side control. One minute to go. Elliott takes mount and locks up a guillotine. Smolka waits it out, eats body shots. 10-9 Elliott.
Round 3: Smolka hits a nice punching combination, but gets taken down into side control. Smolka rolls to his knees, gets to his feet, and eats elbows on the way out. One minute in. Elliott tries some fancy head movement. Elliott shoots, Smolka scrambles to his knees, but gets flattened back down. He scrambles up anyway just under two minutes in. Beautiful throw by Elliott and he takes mount. Good short elbows. Two minutes to go.
Smolka scrambles into top position and grabs a d’arce. Elliott survives it, gets thrown to the mat and Smolka looks for the back. Elliott scrambles through and takes top position. One minute to go. Elliott in the front headlock, can’t use it before Smolka stands. Another single-leg from Elliott. Smolka again makes his way up and transition from a guillotine to a north-south choke when Elliott next shoots. Terrific fight. 10-9 Elliott.
Final result: Elliott def. Smolka by unanimous decision
135 lbs.: Augusto Mendes vs. Aljamain Sterling
Round 1: Sterling throwing some ugly looping punches between bouts of kicking. Body kick from Mendes. Good right hand by “Tanquinho.” Sterling to the body a minute in. Sterling ducks a right hand and hits a takedown on the fence. Sterling staying conservative. Two minute in. Mendes gets butterfly guard, transitions from an omoplata to a leglock attempt. Sterling pulls his leg free, then kicks his legs until the ref brings Mendes up. Suddenly, Mendes drops Sterling with a hard left hook and looks for a guillotine. Two minutes to go.
Sterling pops his head out, so Mendes transitions to an omoplata sweep. Great scramble ensues and he pulls his head out of another guillotine to set up in guard. One minute to go. Body shots by Sterling. Hard right hand from the Funkmaster. Close round. 10-9 Mendes.
Round 2: Sterling sending out kicks to the body. Leg kick from Mendes. Sterling plugs the body, lands a nice counter right. Leg kick lands for him. One minute in. Sterling ducks a right hand and ties up on the fence. Knees from Sterling. Mendes reverses position with double underhooks two minutes in. He gets Sterling to his knees with the bodylock, but only for a moment. Two minutes to go.
Solid knees from Mendes. Sterling uses his forearm to frame and separate, charging after Mendes with punches. One minute to go. Sterling hits a heavy takedown on the fence and starts dropping punches and elbows. 10-9 Sterling.
Round 3: Sterling by far the fresher at the moment. Good low kicks from Sterling. Sneaky straight left connects; be’s befuddling Mendes. Heavy left hook rattles Tanquinho. Mendes still game, wading after him with power punches. Sterling dips his head down and Mendes latches onto a front headlock, but can’t do anything with it. Sterling pressing him against the fence. Two minutes in. Mendes reverses position. Referee separates them for lack of action. Mendes rushes into the clinch. Two minutes to go.
Sterling reverses position after a slow minute. Sterling looks for a single-leg, scores a brief takedown before they separate. Right hand and left hook ding Mendes. Straight right from Tanquinho. counter right and body kick by Sterling, who hurls a hard combination in the waning seconds. 10-9 Sterling.
Final result: Sterling def. Mendes by unanimous decision
205 lbs.: Devin Clark vs. Jake Collier
Round 1: Clark rushes in for an early takedown attempt, can’t get it. Combination from Collier and he ties up, landing knees. Clark reverses position, Collier reverses in turn. Knees from both. One minute in. Elbow by Collier, uppercut by Clark, Collier exits with a spinning back kick. Clark rushes in when Collier trips, still can’t take him down and gets reversed on the fence. Two minutes in. Spinning back fist by Clark, Collier puts him back on the fence and lands knees. They separate. Better takedown this time by Clark and he gets Collier down into half guard. Collier gets a butterfly hook in, gets full butterfly guard with two minutes to go.
Clark blasts him with knees to the body as Collier scrambles, ultimately making it back to his feet. Two huge left hooks by Clark land clean and he puts Collier on the fence. One minute to go. Collier reverses position and they separate once again. Body kick by Collier. 10-9 Clark.
Round 2: Clark still aggressive. Collier with an elbow inside. Hard right hand from Clark and he re-enters the clinch. Good knee by Clark and a glancing spinning back fist. One minute in. Clark cracks him with a jab and grabs the rear waistlock, kneeing the thigh. Collier breaks his grip and gets an underhook, reversing position on the fence. Knee to the groin sends Collier to his knees. They resume after a brief pause. Left hook and overhand right by Clark. Two minutes in. Collier times a right uppercut and moves to the rear waistlock. Clark turns to face him and separates with a head kick. Two minutes to go.
Collier tries to time a spinning back kick and Clark shoots, grabbing the rear waistlock and briefly getting him to his knees. Good knee by Collier, who tries to spin again without success. Clark throws him to his knees away from the fence and looks for the back. One minute to go. Collier rolls, then makes his way back to his feet. Hard leg kick from Collier, Clark lands one in return. 10-9 Clark.
Round 3: Collier on the advance, lands a right hand that draws a smile. Clark fires a 1-2 and hits a blast double on the fence. Collier fighting for the kimura, nothing there. He works his way to his knees, then to his feet a minute in. Collier gets the underhooks, then grabs the rear waistlock with Clark overextends with a right hand. Clark slips out of a takedown attempt and lands on top in half guard. Elbows by Clark two minutes in. Now full mount and he takes the back. Collier gets to his knees, gets slung back down into half guard. Two minutes to go.

185 lbs.: Andrew Sanchez vs. Anthony Smith
Round 1: Overhand right knocks Smith off-balance and Sanchez shoots, ultimately tripping Smith down into half guard on the fence. One minute in. Side control now for Sanchez. Short ground-and-pound landing. Smith regains half guard two minutes in. Lovely sweep from Smith into top half guard. Smith chipping away with short punches, working to pass. Ref stands them up with a little under two minutes to go.
Left hook and body kick by Smith after taking an overhand right. One minute to go. Sanchez head kick blocked and they trade low kicks. Counter right lands for Sanchez. Leg kick by Smith, Sanchez uses the momentum for a spinning back fist and lands a body kick. They engage inside and Sanchez keeps him on the fence until the bell. 10-9 Sanchez.
Round 2: Sanchez overextends with an overhand right, eats a few strikes for his trouble. Low kick lands for him. 3-2 from Sanchez. Smith lands a hard leg kick that gets caught, but Sanchez can’t use it. Counter right from Smith met by an overhand right. One minute in. Sanchez blasts in and takes Smith to the cage. Smith defends and separates. Hard counter right lands for Sanchez, then a looping overhand. Smith looks for a single-leg, can’t get it. two minutes in. Sanchez backs him to the fence and lands a hard left hook before changing levels. Outside trip gets Smith down into half guard. Two minutes to go.

1-2 by Sanchez. Smith puts together a brutal combination and blasts him with a head kick that lands with the knee. Sanchez goes down in a heap and Smith batters him until the ref steps in.

Round 1: Low kicks from Coy, harder one from Cummings. Solid exchanges in the center. Cummings looks like the bigger hitter so far. One minute in. Damn, but this audio sync is annoying. Cummings throwing longer combinations, Coy weaving and throwing one or two at a time. Hard leg kick from Cummings. Two minutes in. Coy changes levels, denied. Big left hand rocks Coy. He seems to get his wits back quickly. Cummings looking for counter lefts. Two minutes to go.
Hard uppercut and body shot. Jab knocks Coy to a knee. Coy’s landing, just outgunned so far. Low leg kick by Coy, straight left comes back. Coy ducks a punch for a single-leg, stuffed. Coy still driving, but shoots right into a guillotine. He rolls and Cummings transitions to a power guillotine, putting the wrestler to sleep in seconds.

Round 1: The women meet in the center and trade punches. Vieira’s got the sharper hands so far. They tie up and Vieira puts her on the fence. Evans-Smith circles off and they separate. One minute in. Hard combination lands for the Brazilian. Evans-Smith trying to counter without much success. Good right cross by Vieira. Two minutes in. Evans-Smith shoots, easily stuffed. Vieira puts her back on the fence. Evans-Smith circles off and they trade punches. Two minutes to go.
Evans-Smith landing the occasional punch and leg kick, but Vieira’s outlanding her quite a bit. Vieira backs her to the fence and lands through the guard. One minute to go. Evans-Smith lands a knee in the clinch and Vieira hauls her to the cage. Vieira takedown thwarted by a fence grab. Evans-Smith reverses position and they exchange before the bell. 10-9 Vieira.
Round 2: Vieira catches a finger in the eye, then goes back to outlanding Evans-Smith. Evans-Smith takes her to the fence, gets reversed. Vieira looking for a bodylock takedown, brings her down a minute in and takes the back. Evans-Smith returns to her feet, Vieira still attached. Vieira separates two minutes in. Right hand by Evans-Smith knocks Vieira off-balance and she follows up with some straight rights after Vieira rolls to her feet. Vieira shoots and locks up on the fence a minute in. Foot stomps from the rear waistlock. Ref separates them two minutes in. They trade right hands in the center. Vieira stuffs a long-range shots, eats knees to the body. Two minutes to go.
