Midnight Mania! Sneak peek video of Garbrandt grabbing Dillashaw’s throat released

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight ...

Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight, we’ve got volcanoes, rock erosion and ... wait, that’s my geology exam tomorrow. That’s right, we’ve got video of Cody Garbrandt grabbing T.J. Dillashaw’s throat in a heated confrontation on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 25, Yoel Romero training with assault rifles (as if he’s not scary enough), Anderson Silva in his commentary role for the new Netflix show, “Ultimate Beastmaster,” highlights, previews, podcasts and much more.

“Cody’s just such a hotheaded arrogant ass.”

“TJ’s a dickhead.”

With such thrilling epithets does the UFC introduce us to the 25th season of the venerable TUF franchise. This one pitches a different formula: Instead of up-and-coming prospects, the show features old and occasionally washed out veterans who are attempting to stage returns to the big show. This includes veterans such as Julian Lane, originator of the, “Let Me Bang, Bro” trademarked mixed martial arts (MMA) phrase. While this new formula takes away the one useful function TUF served -- funneling new talent into UFC -- it may be a success ratings-wise, as many will remember these fighters and tune in to watch them again.

Of course, the show is also blessed with Team Alpha Male’s champion, Cody Garbrandt, and his bitter feud with former teammate T.J. Dillashaw. The preview shows a brief glimpse of Garbrandt grabbing Dillashaw by the throat in rage and driving his head backwards. We had seen the screenshot already, and in fact it has already turned into an MMA meme, but now we see that “No Love” was able to snap TJ’s whole head back. It’s just enough to tease, giving us a little context into how testosterone-charged this season is going to be. One also has to wonder if the smoking gun, the knockout video Garbrandt keeps alleging and TJ keeps denying, will surface during the season. Personally, I can’t wait until the season is over and they get to throw down for the Bantamweight belt.

Oh, the famous “let me bang, bro” moment:

Bobs and Weaves

Did you know Anderson Silva is a Brazilian commentator on the Netflix show “Ultimate Beastmaster?” If you live in America, you will mostly see the American commentary team, but Silva still shows up when the Brazilians are ribbing the Germans or when he is getting scolded for cheering for a German athlete.

Speaking of “The Spider,” this is the weirdest and most uncomfortable .GIF I’ve come across today.

“Soldier of God” is out here doing military-style training.

Remember when Romero kinda-sorta cheated, then knocked out Tim Kennedy, then tried to apologize? It didn’t go over well.

Maybe Romero is training for a rematch ... gunfight rules. My money is on Kennedy, the Special Forces sniper, this time around.

Gennady Golovkin is a monster. His power shots are sublime.

This might be the ideal Instagram video for the MMA Maniac.

UFC 209 may have had a disappointing main event, but the slow motion highlights are great!

So is this GIF

So is this promo for UFC 210. Daniel Cormier may have won the last one by breaking Anthony Johnson, but “Rumble” just hits so hard, no one can take him lightly.

UFC 211 is looking even better. UFC is trying to get the ball rolling again after its slowest start in years.

This seems less than professional: ACB isn’t keeping up with its fight booking.

Alan Jouban is fighting Gunnar Nelson in his next bout. Maybe that inspired him to wonder what he would look like as a Viking.

Feeling kinda hipsterish watching these @ufc 209 fights! @kamuraobscura

What a view!

This is so picturesque.

Fighters work hard researching for their commentary jobs ... and it’s appreciated.

  • Nate Diaz says UFC tried to kick him off his Ice Cube-Charlie Day movie commercial in favor of Georges St-Pierre or Conor McGregor. If true, that’s messed up.

  • Destruction! That’s what’s in store this weekend when Edson Barboza takes on Beneil Dariush. That one snuck up on me, but it’s a great fight and Andrew Richardson breaks it down nicely
