Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the hurt business this TONIGHT (Sat., March 11, 2017) for UFC Fight Night 106: "Belfort vs. Gastelum," which takes place inside Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil, live on FOX Sports 1.

The promotion's latest mixed martial arts (MMA) card, headlined by the middleweight showdown pitting Vitor Belfort opposite Kelvin Gastelum, will also feature the light heavyweight showdown between Mauricio Rua and Gian Villante.

185 lbs.: Vitor Belfort vs. Kelvin Gastelum

Round 1: Belfort launches a front kick early. Wheel kick attempt. Nice exchange. One minute in. Good left hand gets Gastelum’s attention. Body kick lands. Flying knee attempt, Gastelum comes back with a pair of 1-2s. Nice jabs from Gastelum so far. Belfort tries another wheel kick, eats a 1-2 and a 3-2 that sends him to the mat. Gastelum dribbling his head off the canvas. The ref lets it continue and Gastelum sets up in guard. Two minutes to go.

Belfort makes it back up. Hard right hook buzzes Gastelum. Another 1-2 drops Belfort again and the ref has seen enough.

Final result: Gastelum def. Belfort by TKO (punches)


205 lbs.: Mauricio Rua vs. Gian Villante

Round 1: Shogun lands a hard left hook early. He catches a leg kick, tries an overhand right. Left hook by Villante. Counter right briefly drops Villante. Shogun to the body. One minute in. Villante leg kick. Shogun with another right downstairs. BIG left hook and Shogun’s hurt. Villante stomping after him, ties up when Shogun starts throwing back. They separate. 1-2 by Shogun. Cross counter lands clean. Again. To the body now. Two minutes in. Shogun raking him with right hands to the head and body. Overhand connects. Two minutes to go.

Counter 2-3 by Shogun and a right hand drops Villante again. Shogun staying patient, lands right hands to the body and head. One minute to go. Villante with a combination. Jab from Shogun. Another right downstairs. Check hook from Shogun and another uppercut to the body. By the new standards, 10-8 Rua.

155 lbs.: Edson Barboza vs. Beneil Dariush

Round 1: Dariush opens with a head kick attempt, eats a left hand. Barboza to the body, Dariush to the legs. Hard right hand clips Dariush as they trade. Dariush body kick. Barboza to the body, Dariush again to the legs. One minute in. Dariush with a hard left hand earlyy. Barboza to the body, met by a left upstairs. Barboza head kick. Great exchanges so far. Good knee by Dariush, looks for the clinch. Two minutes in. Low kicks from Dariush and a right hand. Left to the body. Dariush looking better and better as the round progresses. Two minutes to go.

Round 1: Low kick from Formiga, clinch. Borg with a right hand on the exit. Both men swinging hard and Borg denies a takedown. Knee exchange. Borg slams home a hard uppercut and they tie up again. Knees to the body from both men. One minute in. Low kick by Formiga. Borg catches a kick in the jewels. They clinch and Formiga drives a couple right hands to the body. Two minutes in. Good knee by Borg met by some from Formiga. Two minutes to go.

Formiga still targeting the body inside. They separate. Left hook. Borg rips another uppercut. One minute to go. Borg eats a counter right, lands one on the exit. Body kick by Formiga. Flurry connects. He shoots, Borg stuffs it and eats a spinning back fist. 10-9 Formiga.

Round 2: Borg looks for an early takedown. Formiga gets his leg out and uses an underhook to reverse position on the fence. They trade on the break. Stiff jab by Borg. One minute in. Low kick by Formiga. Glancing flying knee by Borg. Borg with some lovely chain wrestling, but Formiga with the Nova Uniao takedown defense. Borg in on his hips against the cage. Two minutes in. Borg still keeping him on the cage. Mario Yamasaki breaks them up with two minutes to go.

Both start swinging in a hurry. Formiga shoots, denied. Knee to the body from Borg. Combination by Formiga, capped by a leg kick. Both land left hooks. One minute to go. Right hands on the exit. Glancing spinning back fist from Formiga, then a nasty low kick that makes Borg stumble. Borg comes back with a spinning back fist. He shoots, eats another leg kick. Borg in on a single, denied. Close, close, round. 10-9 Formiga.

Round 3: Borg immediately shoots, again some excellent takedown defense from the Brazilian. Formiga puts him on the fence, looks for the back, moves to mount. Ridiculous scramble. Borg back in on his hips. One minute in. Formiga keeping pressure on the back of Borg’s head, uses the switch and takes top position. He locks up the body triangle in one swift motion with more than three minutes to work. Two minutes in. More hand fighting. Borg twists for his life and lands on top in guard. Two minutes to go.

Nice elbows from Borg. More nice ground-and-pound by Borg. One minute to go. Borg’s cut him open, unloading elbows. Formiga spins for an arm and gives up his back. Borg nearly takes mount, settles for half guard. Great, great fight. 10-9 Borg.

Final result: Borg def. Formiga by unanimous decision


135 lbs.: Bethe Correia vs. Marion Reneau

Round 1: Correia catches a body kick, lands a right hand. Reneau looking for oblique kicks. Stiff jab lands for her. Another body kick. One minute in. Quick exchange in the center. Head kick lands for Reneau. Hard body kick slips under Correia’s elbow and they tie up. Two minutes in. They separate. Correia ties up again and eats a knee as she takes Reneau to the fence. They jockey for position, trading knees. Two minutes to go.

Reneau circles free thirty seconds later. Low kick from Correia, overhand right lands. Low-high from the Brazilian. One minute to go. Body kick by Reneau. Counter right by Correia. Reneau dings her with a right hand and lands another body kick. Correia catches her coming in with a takedown into guard. 10-9 Reneau.

Round 2: They open the round trading punches. Correia clinches up and puts her on the fence. Reneau separates. Good punch exchange. One minute in. Left hook and overhand right both connect for the Brazilian. Telegraphed takedown attempt by Reneau easily avoided. Nice punches landing for Correia. Reneau’s body language isn’t good and an uppercut knocks her back. Two minutes in. Good punches in the clinch by Correia, Reneau comes back with a jab. Low-high combinations by the Brazilian. Lead right by Reneau and a kick to the body. Two minutes to go.

Correia grabs over-unders, Reneau shoves her away. Counter uppercut stings Correia. Correia catches a body kick and spins Reneau into guard. One minute to go. Reneau looking for a triangle, Correia slips out and comes back down. Hammerfists from both woman. 10-9 Correia.

Round 3: Counter left hook by Correia right off the bat. Lovely head kick lands clean and Correia is badly hurt. Reneau unloading with punches Correia shoots, stuffed. Punches and elbows by Reneau. One minute in. Correia still driving, surrenders half guard. Reneau passes to mount, postures up, and drops some nasty punches. Correia taking a thumping. Correia turns and goes for a takedown, but gets countered into half guard. Elbows from Reneau. Correia tries another takedown, denied and thumped again. Back to side control. Two minutes to go.

Both hooks in for Reneau. Hand fighting as she works for the choke. Reneau looking to soften her up, locks up the full body triangle. One minute to go. Correia manages to survive the round. 10-8 Reneau.

Final result: Majority draw


170 lbs.: Tim Means vs. Alex Oliveira

Round 1: Oliveira looks for head kicks early, lands a right hand. Means fakes a wheel kick, eats a spinning back kick. Means ties up, Oliveira puts him on the fence. He heaves Means to the mat and sets up in guard. One minute in. Means briefly threatens an armbar, eats an elbow. Means goes for butterfly guard, then turns for an armbar. No dice. Two minutes in. Means makes it to his feet, grabs double underhooks, and reverses on the fence. Oliveira persistent, hits another takedown from the rear waistlock. Means back up immediately. Two minutes to go.

Oliveira downs him once again. Means back up, takedown number four. He tries to muscle number five and Means lands on top in side control. Short elbow by Means as he stays heavy. One minute to go. Oliveira putting his toes in the fence over and over. Hard left hand by Means before the bell. 10-9 Oliveira.

Round 2: Means digs in for a single-leg early. Oliveira stuffs it, lands a knee and looks for one of his own. Means with some Browne elbows and transitions to another takedown attempt. One minute in. Hard knee by Oliveira, who pulls Means’ hips out for another takedown. Oliveira staying heavy, looks for the back as Means works his way up. Another quick takedown by the Brazilian, who gets both hooks in this time. Body triangle. He swiftly works his forearm under Means’ chin and draws the tap.

Final result: Oliveira def. Means by submission (rear naked choke)


155 lbs.: Kevin Lee vs. Francisco Trinaldo

Round 1: Lee looks for a head kick, eats a straight left. Lee shoots, stuffed, shoots again, stuffed again. Short left on the exit, then on the counter by Massaranduba. Counter right hook. One minute in. Lee ducks a left hand and scores a takedown into guard. Trinaldo active off his back, eats a couple elbows. Trinaldo looking to stand from half guard two minutes in. Lee staying heavy with a cradle. Trinaldo makes it up and looks for a ninja choke. Lee abandons the single-leg and pops his head out. Nice knee on the break. Two minutes to go.

BIG left hand and Lee is hurt. Lee shoots and they trade blows in the clinch. Hard right hand and left uppercut by Lee. He shoots, stuffed, eats a knee and an elbow on the break. One minute to go. Body shot folds Lee and he shoots, eating elbows as he’s stuffed. Lee makes it up, lands a hard knee. He shoots again, eats some hard shots on the fence. 10-9 Trinaldo.

Round 2: Lee tries a head kick. Again, eats a right hook and a body kick. Head kick just misses. One minute in. Right hand from Lee, Trinaldo to the body. Straight right lands for Lee, 1-2 comes back. Lee shoots, stuffed. Two minutes in. Head kick from Lee lands clean and Trinaldo shoots, countered into mount. Trinaldo gives up his back and Lee locks up the body triangle. Two minutes to go.

Lee cranks on the chin and draws the tap.

170 lbs.: Sergio Moraes vs. Davi Ramos

Round 1: Moraes looks much bigger as expected. Counter knee from Moraes. Overhand right lands for him. Head kick blocked. One minute in. Ramos blocking kicks, eats a straight right and flurries in return. Flying knee attempt. Counters still coming. Two minutes in. Ramos throwing with bad intentions. Good leg kick. Both whiff. Two minutes to go.

Lots of feinting. Glancing hook lands for Moraes. Jab from Ramos with a minute to go. Ramos sends out some kicks. 10-9 Ramos?

Round 2: No clean contact in the early going. Body kick from Moraes. One minute in. Ramos with a low kick and a right hand on the fence. Moraes comes back with a counter right. Hard straight right to the body briefly folds Moraes. Good little hook. Two minutes to go. Both men jab the body. Moraes with a body kick and some punches upstairs. Two minutes to go.

Left hook lands for Moraes. Simultaneous hooks. Ramos whiffs on a wheel kick, one minute to go. Left hook lands for Moraes once again. Ramos to the body. He shoots, stuffed. 10-9 Ramos.

Round 3: 1-2 from Moraes. Stiff jab by Ramos in return. Moraes again lands a front kick to the body. Left hook. One minute in. Good straight right lands for him. Two minutes in. Crowd’s a bit restless. Ramos pursues, Moraes backs away easily. Ramos wheel kick blocked. 1-2-3 by Moraes. Right hand connects and Ramos tries unsuccessfully to upend him with a takedown. Two minutes to go.

Moraes still sending out front kicks. Jab lands. Ramos is trying to cut off the cage but keeps crossing his feet. One minute to go. Counter right by Ramos. Leg kick. Ramos gets knocked off-balance when trying to flurry. 10-9 Moraes. No idea how they’ll score the first two.

Final result: Moraes def. Ramos by unanimous decision


135 lbs.: Joe Soto vs. Rani Yahya

Round 1: Early body kicks by Yahya, who’s coming out swinging. Front kick to the body, good 1-2. Soto lands a counter overhand right that knocks Yahya off-balance, slapstick-style. One minute in. Good knee by Yahya as Soto looks for more overhands on the counter. Two minutes in. Yahya staying busy with quick flurries, lands a low kick. Leg kick exchange. Yahya looks for a trip, denied. Two minutes to go.

Yahya’s volume is working well thus far, although Soto’s getting in occasional licks. Right hand from Soto, combinations from Yahya in return. One minute to go. Slick takedown by Yahya and Soto looks for a guillotine. Nothing doing. Soto looking to make space. 10-9 Yahya.

Round 2: Yahya still unloading strikes. Hard counter right lands for Soto. Clash of heads when they exchange hurts Yahya and cuts Soto; the referee does a horrid job of breaking them up. Not Yahya’s first encounter with headbutts. The doctor looks at Soto’s cut and they resume. Hard right hand by Soto. Yahya shooting desperately and Soto takes the back, then stands when Yahya starts to escape. Soto looking more aggressive and effective as Yahya shoots more and more. Soto stuffs a single-leg and briefly threatens a guillotine. Nice exchange, punctuated by a Yahya head kick. Yahya seems tired, eats a right hand and lands one in return. Soto stuffs a shot and looks for a power guillotine, forcing Yahya to the mat. He lets Yahya up. Two minutes to go.

Yahya marching forward with exhausted punches, tries a low single without success. Soto ducks a spinning back fist and avoids a takedown. Good little slugfest inside. Yahya pulls guard and just hands Soto side control. He gives up mount and eats punches before Soto looks for an arm triangle. 10-9 Soto.

Round 3: Yahya is dead on his feet, trading punches with Soto. Yahya front kick, Soto right hand. Yahya shoots, pulls guard. Soto threatening a guillotine, takes side control. Blood just pouring out of Soto as he swats away at a turtling Yahya. One minute in. Yahya surrenders half guard, then side control. Yahya warned for grabbing shorts in turtle. Soto landing some quality shots as he rides. Two minutes to go.

Yahya does not have the energy to stand. He’s just awkwardly pulling various positions as Soto punches away and threatens chokes. Full mount for Soto. He goes for an armbar, loses it, scrambles up with a minute to go. Yahya in zombie mode. Hard uppercut lands for Yahya, who gets taken down and mounted before the bell. 10-8 Soto under the new rules.

Final result: Soto def. Yahya by unanimous decision


155 lbs.: Josh Burkman vs. Michel Prazeres

Round 1: Oblique kick by Burkman, but Prazeres cracks him with approximately eight million left hooks in quick succession. Burkman scrambling for his life as Prazeres pounds away. He manages to survive, but gets taken down into half guard a minute in. Side control for the Brazilian. He quickly sets up a north-south choke and draws the tap.

Final result: Prazeres def. Burkman by submission (north-south choke)


145 lbs.: Rony Jason vs. Jeremy Kennedy

Round 1: Jason lands a jab and an overhand right early on. Kennedy head kick blocked. One minute in. Kennedy with a nice body kick. Double right hand and a left hook behind it sting Kennedy. Flying knee knocks Kennedy over and Jason follows him down into half guard. Two minutes in. Kennedy uses an underhook to stand, pressing him against the fence. Jason tries a counter throw, doesn’t land it and gets taken down with an outside trip. Two minutes to go.

Jason makes it up, gets tossed back down. Solid left hands by the Canadian. Jason works his way to his feet, eats knees. Another outside trip, this time Jason gets most of his guard. One minute to go. Short punches and elbows landing well for Kennedy. 10-9 Kennedy.

Round 2: Inside low kick from Jason as Kennedy works at range. Jason dings him with an uppercut and left hook, then lands a clean flying knee and forces Kennedy to the ground. Jason takes guard and slams home punches. One minute in. Kennedy using an overhook to control posture. Two minutes in. Jason staying busy with short punches. Kennedy really not doing much off his back besides control. Two minutes to go.

Referee finally stands them up with a minute to go, saving Jason a potential wardrobe malfunction. Kennedy tries a head kick, lands one to the nards that sends Jason down like a sack of bricks. Yep, that one hit dead center. 10-9 Jason.

Round 3: Jason taunting with the RJJ hands behind the back. He gets a little too cocky and Kennedy hits a blast double. He’s doing a good job of taking away Jason’s base. The Brazilian makes it to his feet. He circles off and they separate. Kennedy ducks a right hand and takes him down into guard in the middle of the cage. Two minutes in. Elbows from Kennedy, Jason trying some of his own off his back. These are REALLY nice elbows from Kennedy. Two minutes to go.

Jason trying to set up a gogoplata, transitions to an omoplata but Kennedy looks for the back. Jason uses the fence to stand and Kennedy changes levels for another trip. One minute to go. Jason finally makes it back up, looks exhausted. Kennedy with another takedown, landing right hands. He tosses Jason down one more time before the bell. 10-9 Kennedy.

Final result:


185 lbs.: Paulo Borrachinha vs. Garreth McLellan

Round 1: Borrachinha slams home a body kick to start the match. He’s coming out aggressive, lands a hard 1-2 as McLellan retreats along the fence. Right hand by the South African, who eats a body kick. Borrachinha backing him to the fence and unloading combinations. One minute in. McLellan tries to shoot, easily rebuffed. Body kick hurts McLellan, a left hook sends him to his knees, and the Brazilian buries him in hammerfists until Osiris Maia steps in.

Final result: Borrachinha def. McLellan by TKO (punches)
