What’s next for Tyron Woodley after earning first-ever title defense against at UFC 209?

MMA: UFC 209-Woodley vs Thompson Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Tyron Woodley has been making some bold claims suggesting he’s already the best welterweight of all time, a comment that was made prior to earning his first-ever defense of his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title.

But, now that he has it after defeating Stephen Thompson via majority decision at UFC 209 (see it), “The Chosen One” is one step closer to achieving his goals. While the win may not have been popular in everybody’s eyes, a win is a win and Woodley can finally put his rivalry with “Wonderboy” to bed after the two previously fought to a draw at UFC 205.

The challenges will only get tougher for Tyron, and what should be on deck for the hard-hitting striker is a showdown between the winner of the upcoming bout that will see Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal duking it out on May 13, 2017 at UFC 211.

Either man will provide stiff obstacles for “The Chosen One,” as Maia is one of the — if not the -- greatest submission artist in the game today, which will give a wrestler like Woodley fits all day.

On the other hand you have Masvidal, a hard-nosed brawler who isn’t afraid to push the pace and absorb a strike or three to deliver his own. Just ask Donald Cerrone.

A win over any of those two men will look good on Woodley’s resume, and inch him closer to Welterweight immortality. But, let’s not get it twisted, Tyron still has a long road to travel if he wants to be knows as the greatest 170-pound fighter in MMA history, as Matt Hughes and Georges St-Pierre have resumes that are undeniable and hard to match.

Speaking of St-Pierre, now that he’s back, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to see him jump the welterweight line and challenge Tyron for the strap later this year. After all, he’s already jumped the Middleweight line with ease.

Don’t be scared, homie.
