Knockout! Watch Alistair Overeem finish Mark Hunt last night at UFC 209

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title challengers Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt set off the main card last night (Sat., Mar. 4, 2017) at UFC 209 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a tantalizing divisional matchup. It was a battle full of blood, body shots and buckling offense, but the better striker came out on top.

Hunt was able to attack early with leg kicks from the outside, opening up his own shin with a cut that dripped blood all over the cage. But after Overeem opened up in the second round, launching oblique kicks, straight jabs and spinning elbows, Hunt began to tire. In Round 3, during an exchange along the cage, Overeem landed brutal knees on Hunt that slumped the “Super Samoan” over until he fell head first to the canvas. It was an impressive knockout to say the least and one that had Hunt scrambling to regain consciousness.

With this win, Overeem launches himself right back into title contention in a vastly depleted heavyweight division. Outside of his loss to current champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 203 this past September, “The Reem” has been an absolute beast inside of the cage. He now holds knockout victories over Junior dos Santos, Andrei Arlovski and Hunt over the last 15 months.
