It’s official. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight king and pound-for-pound standout Demetrious Johnson will make his return to the Octagon at UFC on FOX 24 on April 15 from inside Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, when he puts his belt on the line opposite top contender Wilson Reis. The announcement was made during UFC 209’s FOX Sports 1 broadcast.
Johnson was scheduled to meet Reis back at UFC 201 this past July, but had to pull out of the fight due to injury. As a result, Reis was forced to take out Hector Sandoval and Ulka Sasaki over the past few months as “Mighty Mouse” defended his title opposite Tim Elliott at TUF 24 Finale. If Johnson is able to get past the world-class grappling of Reis, he will earn his 10th-straight UFC title defense and tie Anderson Silva’s promotional record, which is something he’s aiming to do.
UFC on FOX 24 will also feature other prominent matchups such as:
Women’s Strawweight: Rose Namajunas vs. Michelle Waterson
Middleweight: Jacare Souza vs. Robert Whittaker
Featherweight: Jeremy Stephens vs. Renato Moicano
