Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight veteran Darren Elkins pulled off one of the best comeback victories of all time earlier tonight (Sat., Mar. 4, 2017) at UFC 209 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he pushed through the best that Mirsad Bektic had to offer en route to a third-round knockout finish. It was quite the performance for Elkins, who came into the bout as the biggest underdog on the card.
Through the first 10 minutes of action, Bektic absolutely clobbered Elkins with vicious ground-and-pound and hard shots on the feet. He opened up a grotesque cut above Elkins’ right eye that was bad enough to possibly warrant a doctor’s stoppage, but the veteran plodded forward. In Round 3, after gaining control against the cage and sapping Bektic’s energy, Elkins landed a punishing right hand followed by a right head kick that sent the formerly undefeated prospect to the canvas for the stoppage.

With this win, Elkins extends his current win streak to four. He was outworked for the majority of this fight, but showed world-class perseverance en route to one of the best come-from-behind finishes in recent Octagon memory. Considering Elkins was already ranked within the division’s top 15, he probably deserves a top 10 name his next time out.
