Angela Lee to defend atomweight title at ONE: ‘Dynasty of Heroes’

Angela Lee

Angela Lee only fought once last year but the 20 year old, who has been described as the biggest female star in MMA, looks set for a busy 2017 with a second title defense booked for May 26th.

Lee (7-0) returns to the cage to face undefeated Brazilian challenger Istela Nunes (5-0-0-1) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. It represents a relatively quick turnaround for the atomweight champion who defended her belt for the first time in Bangkok last month.

The half Korean, half Singaporean fighter won the belt last year after beating Mei Yamaguchi in a five round war. Her win last month was of a much more routine nature with the overmatched Jenny Huang eventually succumbing to ground and pound in the third round.

Nunes is undefeated, just like Huang was going into her fight with Lee. The Brazilian has only fought once for ONE Championship, winning by split decision against Yamaguchi in Macau last year.

Flying in to support Lee on fight night will be Olympic gold medal winner Joseph Schooling. He is based in the US but has trained with the Lee siblings and will be cageside on May 26th.

The ONE: “Dynasty of Heroes” will also feature a grappling contest between former ONE Championship lightweight champion Shinya Aoki and multiple time BJJ champion Garry Tonon.
