Amid all the UFC 209 pay-per-view (PPV) hoopla, including the drama surrounding top lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced the return of Georges St-Pierre.
More on that here.
For his return fight, “Rush” will be moving up to middleweight to challenge reigning 185-pound titleholder Michael Bisping in a pay-per-view (PPV) main event slated for later this year.
Today, St-Pierre will join “The Count” in “Sin City” for a special press conference, conveniently embedded in the video player above, at 5 p.m. ET to discuss how and why this pairing came together.
As expected, the announcement did not sit well with some of the contending middleweights, particularly Yoel Romero, who was (cough) “promised” a shot at the 185-pound crown late last year.
It will be interesting to hear what Bisping has to say in regards to the haters, but it’s pretty clear that he — as well as UFC — are more interested in the payday than the integrity of the division.
