Is Ronda Rousey done with the UFC? Was her defeat at UFC 207 in December the last time we'll see her inside an Octagon? While the women's MMA superstar hasn't said a word to the public about her fighting future (or lack thereof) since her loss, the general vibe we've been getting on the subject has not been positive.
But there may still be hope yet! On Tuesday night, strength and nutrition trainer Dan Garner announced that he'd be working with the former women's bantamweight champion. To what end, exactly, remains unclear.
"Wanted to give a good welcoming post to Ronda Rousey who has just recently joined the team, and is all set for the comprehensive nutritional programming process with myself," he wrote. "Excited to have her on board and to accomplish some great things with her this year. Let's go!"
We don't have too much information on Garner to share with you, but his social media accounts feature a lot of work with regional MMA fighters. Is Ronda Rousey preparing to get back into fighting shape? Or is this all just part of a program she'll follow to stay fit for more acting gigs like her recent ‘Blindspot’ appearance? We have to admit, we like the sound of 'great things' being accomplished by Rousey this year.
That being said, you can't really ignore the past three months of news, all seeming to point towards Rousey being done in the UFC. Dana White, someone in a pretty okay position to know what's up, went so far as to say "I think she's probably done. She's going to ride off into the sunset and start living her life outside of fighting."
So for those hoping this is a sign that Ronda Rousey is coming back to the UFC, take that wish and hold it close to your heart next to other sweet dreams like world peace and sensible healthcare. They may not come true, but they're nice ideas none the less.
