MMA: UFC Fight Night-Nelson vs Jouban

After Gunnar Nelson defeated Alan Jouban at the recent UFC Fight Night 107 event in London, England (see it), his coach, Jon Kavanagh, planted the bug of a potential bout between “Gunni” and Stephen Thompson.

A karate duel, if you will.

For his part, Nelson isn’t opposed to the matchup.

“It’s an exciting fight, I guess it’s a fight people would wanna see, two karate guys going at it,” Nelson said, speaking on The Luke Thomas Show. via The Mac Life. “We have karate, both of us, but we have very different styles. That’s my opinion anyway, from looking at him fighting and knowing my style. It is very different.”

Indeed, Gunnar and Nelson have similar, yet contrasting styles which would make for a compelling bout. “Wonderboy” is fresh of his second failed bit to dethrone Welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, at UFC 209 (see it).

“I’d be very interested in that match, you know,” said Nelson.

“Gunni’s” win over Jouban was his second straight victory in the welterweight division. Still, it wasn’t enough to give him a huge boost in the rankings, as he is currently sitting at the No. 9 spot, while “Wonderboy” is still firm at No. 1.

Should that matchup not see the light of day, here is another interesting bout that could inch “Gunni” toward a showdown against his karate counterpart.
