Bellator 180: “Sonnen vs. Silva” comes to pay per view (PPV) from Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 24, 2017. A match anticipated ever since Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva coached The Ultimate Fighter will finally take place, but it’s going to happen in a Bellator cage instead of a UFC Octagon.
That’s not the only long anticipated fight making its way to the historic Garden.
“The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione were scheduled to headline Bellator 172 in San Jose last month, but Mitrione’s medical woes pulled him from the card just hours before the show. Thanks to the New York Post, we’ve learned this fight will finally take place as the Bellator 180 co-main event.
It’s undoubtedly a way of hedging Bellator’s bets as well, for if there’s any chance that Sonnen or Silva are not cleared by the New York State Athletic Commission, there’s still a big fight second from the top that can move up to headline the show.
