UFC Fight Night 107 results: Next matches to make for ‘Manuwa vs. Anderson’ main card winners

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Manuwa vs Anderson
Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to action last night (Sat., March 18, 2017) for UFC Fight Night 107: “Manuwa vs. Anderson,” which took place inside The O2 in London, England, airing live on UFC Fight Pass. The promotion's latest mixed martial arts (MMA) card was headlined by a Light Heavyweight showdown that saw Jimi Manuwa absolutely obliterate Corey Anderson with a one-hitter quitter in the very first round (see it again here). In the co-main event, Gunnar Nelson proved to the world why he is one of the best submission specialists in the world, tying up Alan Jouban in an air-tight guillotine choke to earn the second round victory (full video highlights here).

Winner: Jimi Manuwa

Who He Should Fight Next: Jon Jones

“Posterboy” wants a a title fight against the winner of the upcoming rematch between division king, Daniel Cormier, and Anthony Johnson. But, I think Manuwa need one more big win before he gets into title contention. UFC president Dana White has already stated that Jon Jones will get next crack at the title upon his return from suspension, but that statement came a few months after he stated “Bones” would never headline an event for him. That said, there’s no telling what will happen once “DC” and Rumble” finish their work at UFC 210 on April 8, so Jones could be on the sidelines even further ending the outcome. Since he’s gearing up to return in July, I’d like to see him get another fight before he contends for the strap again. Jimi is confident he can put Jones to sleep, so why not throw them in the cage together to see who gets the next title shot? Sure, “Posterboy” isn’t too thrilled about fighting someone he believes is on steroids, but at the end of the day, he won’t duck anyone.

Winner: Gunnar Nelson

Who He Should Fight Next: Neil Magny

This fight kind of makes sense. They are only separated by a few spots spot on the official UFC rankings, and both are coming off huge wins, with Neil taking out Johny Hendricks at UFC 207 last December. It will be a clash of styles, as Gunnar prefers to let his skills shine on the ground, while Magny likes to take out his aggression on his foes on the feet. “Gunni” proclaimed to be more active this coming year and called for bigger and tougher matchups. Magny is a step up from Jouban, and a win over him should get him a top five foe soon thereafter.

Winner: Marlon Vera

Who He Should Fight Next: Joe Soto

Both men are coming off huge wins, with Vera sending Brad Pickett into retirement with a brutal head-kick knockout at UFC London, while Soto scored his third straight victory over Rani Yahya at UFC Fight Night 106 just last week. That win scored him his first top 15 ranking. Meanwhile, Vera is still on the outside looking in. That said, a bout and subsequent victory over Joe could get him there. On the flip, a win for Soto could raise his stock even further and set him up for bigger and better things down the line.

Winner: Arnold Allen

Who He Should Fight Next: Andre Fili

Allen picked up his fifth straight win, third inside the Octagon by taking out Makwan Amirkhani. While Makwan isn’t the biggest name in the game, it’s the biggest name Allen has defeated. Slowly, but surely, the young buck is starting to come up. Up next, I’d like to see him take on Fili, who would prove to be a tough challenge for the 23 year-old. Andre is coming off a win over Hacran Dias last October, ans should be getting ready to get back into action soon.
