It didn’t take long for Kelvin Gastelum to put an end to his fight against Vitor Belfort, knocking out “The Phenom” in the very first round (see it) in the main event of last night’s (Sat., March 11, 2017) UFC Fight Night 106 event in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Afterward, Gastelum proceeded to call out his next opponent, and it wasn’t just anyone, as the former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner called for a showdown against former Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva. After the bout, Kelvin conducted a backstage interview and explained why he called “The Spider” out.
“I want to continue on the legend whooping. It’s a fight that interests me. It’s a big name, Anderson is a huge, huge legend. The greatest of all time and it would be an honor to share the cage with him.”
Silva returned to the winner’s circle at UFC 208, defeating Derek Brunson via unanimous decision which had a lot of people up at arms. The win helped Silva snap his funk and prolong his combat career.
Whether or not he takes Gastelum up on his challenge, remains to be seen, but I bet there are a lot of people who wouldn’t want to see this matchup. Are you one of them?
