It’s been a banner year for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, who just can’t seem to keep his stories straight. First, UFC wasn’t for sale, then Michael Bisping wasn’t fighting Georges St. Pierre, and Misha Cirkunov was “done” with UFC after flaking out on his latest contract.
One more garbage prediction and White will have achieved the rare Golden Sombrero.
“We got a deal done,” White told TSN in Canada (via MMA Junkie). “We had come to terms on a deal. I had thought he sort of went MIA on me. I honestly don’t know what happened. He came back around, we got the deal done and I’m happy about it. I’m glad we did, and I look forward to seeing him fight again.”
As do we.
The 29-year-old Cirkunov (13-2), who stands 6’3” with a 77” reach, is a perfect 4-0 under the UFC banner and has ended his last eight fights by way of brutal finish. The hard-hitting Latvian has yet to crack the division’s top 15, despite his recent submission win over No. 9-ranked Nikita Krylov.
Not that it matters, especially when the division No. 1 contender is looking over his shoulder.
