Mike Jackson and CM Punk have a couple of things in common, chief among them is that they were both strangled by Mickey Gall’s rear-naked choke inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon.
They also don’t have much mixed martial arts (MMA) experience, as their respective bouts against Gall are their only professional fights; for Punk, though, it’s his first ever MMA bout, period.
So it only makes sense to pit them against one another, right?
According to Jackson, if Punk really is determined to get back into the Octagon, he is more than ready to be his dance partner.
"You’re trying to make money, and that’s really the only reason we’re bringing this guy in in the first place, and it seems what’s best would be to allow me to fight him," Jackson told MMA Junkie.
Of course, there is more to it, as Jackson says he was insulted by the former WWE star backstage at a UFC event after Punk called him a "can." As Mike sees it, that’s a good selling point for a potential bout between them.
"For someone who has zero fight experience to call me a can, that was probably the most offensive thing that I’ve heard throughout this entire ordeal," Jackson said. "So, he wants to fight one more time at least, and I figure, throw me in there."
"They only have a little bit of promotional material, you don’t have to worry about looking for another fighter to fight CM Punk," he said. "I think he and I, we have enough history and a little bit of bad blood that we can just make the money fight right here, right now."
Jackson, who is also an MMA reporter and photographer, says at the end of the day, a bout between he and Punk will determine once and for all who the real can is.
"Let’s see who the real can is here, and let’s make some money doing it," Jackson concluded.
