It’s one thing to have the mixed martial arts (MMA) fanboys riding your sack, but getting praise from the scariest striker in all of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) ... well, that’s a horse of a different color.
Top light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson has been keeping his eye on the inner workings of the 205-pound weight class while riding the pine and waiting for his guaranteed title shot against Daniel Cormier, and aside from the usual suspects, there is one up-and-coming prospect who has his attention.
“I think, besides ‘DC,’ the one guy that has my attention is, what’s him name, Misha (Cirkunov). That dude is a beast,” Johnson told MMA Fighting. “He’s a beast, man. I like his style, and he’s built like a brick house. I think his ass is gangster. I don’t think he’s close, but he’s definitely somebody you’ve got to watch out for.”

The 29-year-old Cirkunov (13-2), who stands 6’3” with a 77” reach, is a perfect 4-0 under the UFC banner and has ended his last eight fights by way of brutal finish. The hard-hitting Latvian has yet to crack the division’s top 15, despite his recent submission win over No. 9-ranked Nikita Krylov.
Expect that to change sooner, rather than later.
