Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight No. 1 contender, Rory MacDonald, went to war with current 170-pound title challenger, Stephen Thompson, at UFC Fight Night 89 last June inside TD Place Arena in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Our full recap here.
It was the final fight of MacDonald’s UFC contract and since “Red King” was unable to get past the stand-up attack of “Wonderboy,” he was left with little-to-no leverage at the negotiating table.
MacDonald was able to ink a lucrative contract with Bellator MMA (to fight this guy) while Thompson moved on to challenge Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight title, which ended in a draw in the UFC co-main event last November.

Thompson will run it back with “The Chosen One” at the upcoming UFC 209 pay-per-view (PPV) a week from Saturday night (March 4, 2017) in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the winner (probably) moving on to face Demian Maia.
