Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title challenger Josh Koscheck made his Bellator MMA debut earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 18, 2017) at Bellator 172 live on Spike TV from inside SAP Center in San Jose, California, opposite Mauricio Alonso. The 39-year-old Koscheck came out firing, but his debut ended in absolute disaster.
After minutes of action that saw Koscheck press the action along the cage and try to time his overhand right, Alonso caught the veteran flush on the eye with a right hand. Koscheck was temporarily stuck in the mud before trailing backwards along the cage. Once there, Alonso blasted him with a powerful right uppercut followed by a combination to earn the first-round TKO stoppage.
The memorable finish can be seen below.
With this loss, one wonders how long Koscheck will continue to compete. He hasn’t won inside of the cage since earning a split decision over Mike Pierce back in 2012. The former UFC title contender will probably get one more chance to prove himself inside of the Bellator cage in 2017.
