How the mighty have fallen...
Holly Holm jumped out to a perfect 10-0 record in mixed martial arts (MMA), not long after crossing over from the ranks of boxing, where “The Preacher’s Daughter” held multiple championship titles.
Her last win, a crushing, second-round (disappearing) knockout that sent Ronda Rousey to the sidelines for over a year, was the highlight of her Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) career.
It was also the last time she saw the win column.
“I never want to give the pink slip to any fighter too soon, that’s a decision they want to make and they need to make themselves,” UFC welterweight champion and UFC on FOX analyst Tyron Woodley told TMZ. “I think maybe she needs to take some time away, maybe do something outside the Octagon, hopefully something that builds her brand to make her more valuable inside the Octagon.”
Holm dropped her third straight fight by way of dubious decision at the UFC 208 pay-per-view (PPV) event last Saturday night (Feb. 11, 2017) inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, after five grueling rounds against featherweight Germaine de Randamie.

“One thing I have not seen her do a lot of — and maybe she just doesn’t have any interest -- maybe some commentating,” Woodley continued. “For me, it always kept me fresh. You always have the control to reach so many hundreds of thousands of millions of people on a platform. So when I wasn’t even competing for eight months I kept my name in the mix, I kept my stance for why I should be next for the title and it held more weight than what people realized.”
Maybe she can train with Sage Northcutt instead.
Holm is calling for a De Randamie do-over (echoed by “Iron Lady”), though she also has the option of returning to 135 pounds. “The Preacher’s Daughter” is currently ranked No. 4 behind Julianna Pena (see the full list here).
