Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) wanted heavyweight power puncher Mark Hunt to jump through a bunch of hoops before booking the “Super Samoan” for another mixed martial arts (MMA) fight.
Mostly because of this.
Hunt (13-11-1, 1 NC) had his brain checked out both here and abroad and doctors were able to rubber stamp his return, which wasn’t a guarantee considering his tenure in combat sports (which includes kickboxing), along with his advanced age of 43.
“After a full medical analysis at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas, UFC confirms that heavyweight athlete Mark Hunt has been cleared to compete,” the promotion said in a statement to MMA Fighting.
Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for strawweight veteran Angela Magana (11-9). The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 20 contestant got a chance to make hay while the sun shines on the Octagon, but went 0-3 under the UFC banner and was recently given her release.
“I immediately asked for a rematch with UFC and they have released me after dropping three losses in a row,” Magana wrote on Twitter. “I'm thankful for the opportunities afforded to me through my journey with UFC and am currently headed to the gym to train for my next win.”
Can’t blame that one on Keith Peterson.
