Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson, recently went under the knife to correct a nagging elbow injury, which is likely to sideline him for a couple of months and take his temporary title off the table.
Not like he was using it anyway.
That’s because “El Cucuy,” who submitted Kevin Lee back in October to claim the substitute strap, is no closer to fighting reigning division champion Conor McGregor than he was when “Notorious” became king of the lightweights.
First it was a boxing super fight, then it was a mandatory timeout for bad behavior.
In addition, his top lightweight rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, got injured and was forced to take some time off, only to return and get paired off against striking sensation Edson Barboza at UFC 219.
Therefore, it makes sense for Ferguson to handle his business and come back better than ever ... assuming someone will (eventually) waiting to meet him.
