Pic: CM Punk earns BJJ blue belt ahead of UFC return

Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion Phil Brooks, who operates under the moniker “CM Punk,” is expected to make his return to mixed martial arts (MMA) in 2018 after meeting with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White ahead of last weekend’s UFC 218 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Detroit.

More on that reunion here.

Punk was smashed and trashed in his UFC debut, which came against welterweight whippersnapper Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio. So, as you might expect, the “Straight-Edge Superstar” returned to Roufusport to work on his skills (or perhaps find some) before accepting a second fight.

The result was a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) blue belt, awarded earlier this week by grappling wizard Daniel Wanderley, who previously trained under Gutenberg Melo and Carlson Gracie Sr. en route to his black strap.

Whether or not it comes into play for Punk’s next fight remains to be seen.
