Bellator 194: “Nelson vs. Mitrione” comes to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Feb. 16, 2018, featuring a hard-hitting Heavyweight rematch between two fighters who know each other well from their Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heydays, colliding once again in an historic eight-man, single-elimination tournament.

“Big Country” Roy Nelson (23-14) made a successful jump from UFC to Bellator by defeating Javy Ayala at Bellator 183. The obvious question after that win was simply, “What’s next?” That’s because Nelson has a popular cult following, Bellator needed a Heavyweight champion, and he’d be a popular contender.

The announcement of a Heavyweight Grand Prix solved that problem, and now Matt Mitrione (12-5) will seek to avenge a knockout loss to Nelson from 2012. Whoever succeeds in their second encounter will advance to the second round of the stacked Grand Prix.

That’s good news or bad news depending on how you look at it. The winner of this fight meets the winner of the bracket pairing “King Mo” Muhammed Lawal with Ryan “Darth” Bader. Tickets for Bellator 194 go on sale Dec. 8, 2017, via Ticketmaster, and at the box office.
