Khabib Nurmagomedov firmly cemented himself as the legit No. 1 contender in the lightweight division after destroying Edson Barboza at UFC 219 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The hurdle currently in front if "The Eagle," however, is that current champion Conor McGregor hasn't defended his title in over a year and won't do so for another six months. Meanwhile, interim champion Tony Ferguson only has eyes for "Notorious," which means the division is in limbo.
It's an odd thing to say when the weight class has two champions.
Khabib, though, has a solution as he says he wants to take them both on at the same time to clear up the division.
“I don’t know about these guys. When I am injured they talk too much. But when I am healthy, I don’t see these guys," said Khabib during the post-fight press conference.
"I want to catch somebody, Tony or Conor it doesn’t matter. Or maybe they going to fight each other. Or maybe if UFC approve, I can fight these two guys the same night. I swear I don’t joke. If UFC make this, I can fight same night. I can fight with these guys on the same night. Why not? I am fresh. I fought Edson Barboza 15 minutes," he added.
While it may sound boisterous, you can't help but to appreciate his willingness to tango right away after over a year away from action and doing what he did to Edson.
Still, Khabib wants every contender who badmouthed him when he was out to say his name now that he's back.
"Maybe I need to stay humble, but tonight I have to give it to these guys back because they talk too much when I am injured. I don’t want to be injured, go to surgery for rehab for four months, but it happens. When somebody is injured, you can not talk shit about this. You have to stay humble, focused on your job. But, they talk when I was inured. Now, where are these guys," he concluded.
