Two of the more physically imposing middleweights on the UFC roster will collide at UFC on FOX 28 on Feb. 24 from inside Amway Center in Orlando, Fla., as former title challenger Yoel Romero takes on former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) champion David Branch, per a report by The Orlando Sentinel which was later confirmed by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.
Romero, 40, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker back at UFC 213 in which he had a shot to claim the interim middleweight title. Considering “Soldier of God” has produced a 8-1 record since entering the promotion back in 2013, he’s seemingly one win away from another shot at 185-pound gold.
Branch, 36, is coming off a submission loss to former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold back at UFC Fight Night 116. It was Branch’s first loss since dropping a decision to Anthony Johnson back in 2012. Branch didn’t look overly impressive in his UFC debut, but could immediately jump into title contention with an early 2018 win over Romero.
Before Romero meets Branch at UFC on FOX 28, Whittaker will defend his UFC middleweight title against Rockhold at UFC 221 on Feb. 11 from Perth, Australia.
