Brazilian behemoth Gabi Garcia missed weight by nearly 27 pounds on Thursday and as a result, was pulled from her freak show fight against 53-year-old retired professional wrestler Shinobu Kandori, expected for the RIZIN event on Dec. 29 in Saitama, Japan.
More on that silliness here.
Apparently, Garcia’s punishment extended beyond the simple “no fight, no paycheck” policy fans are accustomed to in the states, as the grappling phenom was also forced to address the mixed martial arts (MMA) community — on her knees — to apologize for the scale fail.

“For those who have lost a brother, dying for a cut of weight would not be my choice,” Garcia later wrote on Facebook. “All together, menstrual period, high blood pressure, it was necessary to cut 17 pounds. I chose to live. Do not judge. Thank you Rizin for cherishing my life.”
Weight cutting fatalities have, regrettably, made headlines in recent years.
No word yet on when Garcia will return to the ring, but she’s expected to be in attendance on Saturday night for day two of the RIZIN World Grand Prix. For all the results from day one click here.
