To those mixed martial arts (MMA) fans convinced no one could top Jason Miller, who blew up the Venator scale by a whopping 24 pounds, I present to you 237-pound behemoth Gabi Garcia.
Apparently her idea of cutting weight looks like Audrey Griswold’s nightmare in European Vacation, as the jiu-jitsu champ missed her mark by nearly 27 pounds. Her opponent, a 53-year-old retired professional wrestler, weighed in at just 162.25.
“Opponent Shinobu Kandori freaked out and started yelling ‘this is a disgrace,’” veteran reporter Joe Ferraro posted on Twitter. “(Nobuyuki) Sakikibara came on stage and said ‘competitionwise, we cannot make this happen.’”
Their scheduled RIZIN bout has yet to be canceled, though Garcia hinted something was in the works for tomorrow’s appearance in “The Land of the Rising Sun.”
It’s been a rough road for the Brazilian, who was mired in controversy in the wake of her last bout, which ended by way of finger poke, and then we have the soccer-kick travesty from last summer.
Just another day in Japan MMA.
