Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be forced to shuffle its UFC 219 line up for the upcoming “Cyborg vs. Holm” pay-per-view (PPV) event, taking place this Saturday night (Dec. 30, 2017) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That’s because bantamweight power-puncher John Lineker was felled by a bum tooth and sent to emergency surgery, stranding opponent Jimmie Rivera in “Sin City” with no one to fight, despite some Twitter matchmaking with top bantamweight contender Marlon Moraes.
Which failed to come to fruition, even with a 10-pound allowance.
“Let’s be clear on the situation, I’m in Vegas ready to fight,” Rivera wrote on Twitter. “Missed Thanksgiving. Missed Christmas. Missed honeymoon. Was prepared. Was a professional. Cruz out. Lineker out. Marlon full of shit. Sorry to my fans, friends and family. Marlon Moraes said no to the 10 pounds. Those were his terms, I agreed, and then he withdrew the offer.”
Moraes (20-5-1) creamed Aljamain Sterling earlier this month in New York.
Rivera (21-1) was originally slotted against Dominick Cruz, who bailed on their bantamweight bangfest after breaking his arm. Lineker stepped up to the plate on short notice, the struck out when his dentist intervened.
No word yet from the promotion on what will happen to “El Terror,” but with just four days until fight night, don’t expect to see him until after the new year. Against who, remains to be seen.
Stay tuned.
