UFC 218 preview: Jose Aldo not washed up, has the fire to reclaim world title

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the hurt business this Saturday night (Dec. 2, 2017) with UFC 218: "Holloway vs. Aldo 2,” which pops off from inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

UFC 218 will be headlined by the featherweight championship rematch between reigning division kingpin Max Holloway and former 145-pound titleholder Jose Aldo, who came face-to-face at the conclusion of the UFC 218 media day.

There has been a lot of talk about whether or not Aldo was “mentally broken” after losing to Holloway by technical knockout at UFC 212 back in June. It was the second time “Junior” has been finished, having already going down in flames against Conor McGregor at UFC 194.

Aldo (26-3) doesn’t sound too concerned.

“I think I have this fire inside of me again,” Aldo said. “I want to be champion again. I have new goals, I have people to fight for. I’m not just fighting for myself. You get motivated when there are other things involved.”

The 31-year-old Brazilian was undefeated for over eight years across a span of 18 fights and has 14 knockouts in 26 wins. In addition to holding gold for UFC, “Junior” was also the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) 145-pound champion.

Can he recapture some of that former glory? We’ll find out this weekend.
