Pic: Alexander Gustafsson ‘feels great’ following shoulder surgery

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title contender, Alexander Gustafsson, 30, took himself out of the 205-pound title chase to repair the nagging shoulder injury that’s been bugging him over the last few months.

Mission accomplished.

“The Mauler” will now begin rehab and take several months to heal, which means former opponent and current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will be free and clear to throw hands with Volkan Oezdemir, assuming the Swiss sensation has “No Time” for incarceration.

More on that fiasco here.

The 205-pound weight class continues to be in turmoil thanks to the extracurricular activity of Jon Jones, who flunked another drug test and lost his division title. I guess that rematch against Gustafsson (18-4) just wasn’t meant to be.

But a do-over with Cormier would be a solid consolation prize, considering the five-round war they put on at UFC 192 back in late 2015.

Time will tell.
