Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to the hurt business last night (Sat., Nov. 25, 2017) for UFC Fight Night 122, which took place inside Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. The UFC Fight Pass event featured a Middleweight showdown which saw Kelvin Gastelum flatten former division champion Michael Bisping in the very first round with a vicious knockout (see it again here).
Winner: Kelvin Gastelum
Who He Should Fight Next: Luke Rockhold
Kelvin wants an interim title fight against title holder Robert Whittaker. But that’s not going to happen, though you can’t blame Kelvin for taking his shot. That said, I’d like to see the former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) take on former 185-pound champion, Luke Rockhold. Luke has also been eying a shot at the strap, but after one win, he isn’t there yet. Booking these two men against one another makes sense, as Luke is the only top fighter in the division without a fight lined up, or in the works. The winner of the matchup could make a big case for a shot at the championship belt.
Winner: Li Jingliang
Who He Should Fight Next: Alex Garcia
Why not? Li called for the fight after his win over Zak Ottow, and it’s not a bad idea. Li has been on a tear as of late, winning four in a row. Garcia has been fighting inside the Octagon since 2013 with mixed results, failing to capture a big significant win in order to catapult him onto people’s radars. After getting back on track against Muslim Salikhov, I’m feeling a fight between Alex and Li. They will both have the same recovery time and should be gearing up for a return around the same time.
Winner: Wang Guan
Who He Should Fight Next: Rolando Dy
We’re just following the UFC’s matchmaking model — which seems to have fallen by the wayside over the years -- with this one, folks. Cacares last win was over Dy. Since then, Rolando has gone 1-1, winning his last outing against Burne Wuliji. I like this fight between these two up-and-coming fighters. Both are coming off an win and both would love nothing more than to score back-to-back wins inside the Octagon in order to start ruffling some feathers in the divisions.
Winner: Alex Garcia
Who He Should Fight Next: Li Jingliang
