If legal woes bench Volkan Oezdemir, then Daniel Cormier will gladly rematch Alexander Gustafsson

That Daniel Cormier is just so gosh darn malleable.

The reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight titleholder, who reclaimed his crown when Jon Jones ran afoul of United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), was expected to defend his title against power-punching contender Volkan Oezdemir in first-quarter 2018.

Then “No Time” got arrested for allegedly melting some trash-talking mouth breather at the local watering hole.

Until his legal issues get resolved, there’s a strong possibility Oezdemir may be unable to compete, which leaves the door open for other top-ranked contenders (see ‘em) like Alexander Gustafsson and Ovince Saint Preux.

Cormier talks to the Anik & Florian Podcast (via MMA Fighting):

“Of course, I’d fight any of these guys. It doesn’t matter. So of course I’d fight Gustafsson and someone told me yesterday that Team Ovince Saint Preux was like, ‘We want a title fight because we’ve got a good winning streak too.’ Obviously this throws a wrench into those plans, when we see what happens to Oezdemir. It’s kind of all fluid right now because we’ve got to see what happens with this guy.”

Cormier and Gustafsson first went to war at the UFC 192 pay-per-view (PPV) event back in late 2015, when “DC” prevailed by way of close split decision in a fun, back-and-forth affair. It was a battle that is certainly worthy of a second go-round.

Saint Preux also competed for the division strap, but came up short in a losing effort to Jones at UFC 197 in April 2016. “OSP” is currently the winner of three straight, with three violent finishes.
