Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir was arrested last Saturday night (Nov. 18, 2017) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. and charged with aggravated battery.
According to manager Fredric Englund, Oezdemir was mixed up in a barroom altercation last August and was simply defending himself, though the victim, Kevin Cohen, allegedly sustained swelling and cuts on his head from the melee.

Oezdemir, of course, is innocent until proven guilty.
How this arrest affects his upcoming light heavyweight title fight against Daniel Cormier remains to be seen. The promotion is currently investigating the incident and probably won’t make any decisions until Oezdemir returns to court.
That said. it’s certainly not a good look for the promotion, especially after Fabricio Werdum made headlines over the weekend when Australian police charged him with assault for boomeranging Colby Covington.
Stay tuned for more on Oezdemir’s future in the coming days.
