Fabricio Werdum cited for assault, must appear in Australian court after boomerang attack

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Werdum vs Miocic Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

I guess Colby Covington wasn’t kidding when he said he was pressing charges.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum was cited for “common assault” on Thursday, according to Yahoo, following his altercation with Covington at the UFC Fight Night 121 media day earlier this week.

“Vai Cavalo” threw a boomerang at “Chaos” (video here).

As a result, the Brazilian will have to appear in court on Dec. 13 to answer for his actions, though it’s unclear if authorities will let him leave Sydney and return after his Marcin Tybura fight on Saturday night.

In addition to whatever penalties Wedum must face from the Australian legal system, the promotion is currently investigating the situation and could hand down its own sanctions, depending on what it finds.

As of now, the show must go on and Werdum — who is no stranger to pre-fight controversy — will remain in the UFC Fight Night 121 headliner. Assuming we can get through the next two days without incident.
