Things didn’t end well for Jose Aldo the last time he encountered UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. Luckily for Aldo, he’ll have another opportunity to dethrone “Blessed” when he steps in for an injured Frankie Edgar at UFC 218 on Dec. 2 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich., per a recent report by MMA Fighting.
Aldo, 31, has not fought since losing to Holloway via third-round TKO back at UFC 212 this past June. Before that, the Brazilian legend defeated Edgar in a rematch at UFC 200 to claim the interim featherweight title while then champion Conor McGregor was off galavanting at 155 pounds.
Considering Aldo was unable to get past Holloway’s pressuring offense just five months ago, it’s going to be very difficult for the former UFC champ to get the best of “Blessed” on just three weeks notice. Still, Aldo is one of the best fighters of all time and a terrifying opponent for anyone in the featherweight division, Holloway included.
UFC 218 will also feature a premier heavyweight showdown between former title challenger Alistair Overeem and rising contender Francis Ngannou.
