Diego Sanchez, 35, is saying goodbye to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight division and returning to his old home of 170 pounds, probably because cutting weight sucks, especially when you’re not winning fights.
He’ll collide with longtime welterweight slugger and fellow Ultimate Fighter (TUF) grad Matt Brown, 36, at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 120 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, slated for Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va., TONIGHT (Sat., Nov. 11, 2017).
Sanchez (27-10) has been consistently inconsistent, racking up a 6-6 record since late 2010 and has not won consecutive fights since outpointing Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann roughly six years back.
“The Nightmare” was last seen getting knocked out by All Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night 108.
Brown (20-16) has also struggled to stay relevant in the second half of his career, going just 1-5 over the last three years and racking up three straight defeats. His knockout loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 206 effectively eliminated him from the 170-pound title chase and booted him from the division top 15.
