Bellator MMA has lucked out tonight (Fri., Nov. 10, 2017) for its event in Dublin, Ireland, as the promotion has used an in-cage incident involving UFC superstar Conor McGregor to package a notorious commercial promo.
Bellator 187, which was headlined by a featherweight matchup between undefeated prospect A.J. McKee and Irishman Brian Moore (results here), has already come to a close overseas, but the American people have yet to see it. In order to boost viewership, Bellator and Spike TV have put together the above commercial promo.
As you may already know, McGregor jumped inside of the Bellator cage earlier today to celebrate the victory of teammate Charlie Ward. After his invasion, all hell broke loose. From deafening bitchslaps to referee shoves, McGregor ran a muck.
Considering the popularity of “Notorious” and the ratings it would bring, Bellator embraced the absurd Dublin ruckus in order to increase the event’s anticipation. Not too shabby when you consider McGregor has been inside of the Bellator cage more recently than he’s been inside the UFC’s Octagon.
All in all, Friday was an unexpected circus for the world of mixed martial arts. Bellator got a more-than-welcomed surprise that helped their promotional efforts, and McGregor put himself in more hot water after a previous run-in with referee Marc Goddard and a homophobic slur passed around like hot potatoes.
