The always dominant Demetrious Johnson looked to capture his 11th-straight UFC flyweight title defense last night (Sat., Oct. 7, 2017) at UFC 216 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he welcomed young contender Ray Borg to the big show.
It was all Johnson in the early going as the reigning flyweight king picked apart Borg with whipping leg kicks and smashing body kicks. After gaining top control, “Mighty Mouse” peppered the challenger with ground-and-pound and intelligent transitions. Borg regained a little momentum early into the second round by pinning the champ against the cage, pressuring with submission attempts, and securing a timely takedown. Johnson recovered, got back to his feet, and dumped Borg off his back. “Mighty Mouse” then battered Borg with sharp elbows before nearly locking in an arm bar.
In Round 3, Johnson once again weighed heavy on Borg from top position. He landed short, yet heavy, shots from side control, and knees to the body from half guard. Borg did little to buck the champion off and really started to pay for it. Borg did come out extremely aggressive in the fourth round and landed a slamming takedown in the center of the Octagon, but “Mighty Mouse” quickly got back to his feet and wound up in top position again. Johnson didn’t allow Borg to rest for one second and the challenger really started to wilt.
The fifth and final frame offered much of the same as Johnson beat Borg about the head like he stole his belt. Borg tried to muster up the explosiveness to outmaneuver the champion, but Johnson was all over him the entire way. And out of nowhere, Johnson tossed Borg up in the air and grabbed a hold of an armbar as “Tazmexican Devil” hit the canvas. It was a move out of a video game and one that Johnson rode out until Borg tapped for the fifth-round submission finish.

With this win, Johnson exits Las Vegas with his 11th-straight UFC title defense. It was even more impressive than his last Octagon appearance and another reason why “Mighty Mouse” should be considered the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet. His reign at 125-pounds will continue to surge forward until outside challengers, like Cody Garbrandt or T.J. Dillashaw, drop down and push Johnson’s limits.
