Demetrious Johnson will (finally) earn PPV points for UFC 216

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Johnson vs Reis Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is poised to make history this weekend with his eleventh straight title defense, which he expects to come at the expense of Ray Borg in the UFC 216 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event this Saturday night (Oct. 7, 2017) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And for the first time in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, “Mighty Mouse” will get PPV points, which means dollars earned for every PPV purchased after hitting a pre-determined reserve number.

From his conversation with MMA Fighting:

“I’ll get pay-per-view points. I just want to be on the same playing field as all the other champions. Every single champion out there gets $500,000 flat to win, plus pay-per-view points. I’m not to that level yet. That’s my goal, that’s where I believe First Round Management can get me to. It’s not like this is my first, or second, or fourth title defense; I didn’t just win the belt. You got guys who win the belt and they get $500,000 flat straight up, and then they get pay-per-view points.”

I guess that check never came.

Johnson was able to restructure his deal after Borg left him high and dry at the UFC 215 PPV last month in Canada. And for the record, the last disclosed payout for “Mighty Mouse” was $350,000 at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF 24) Finale back in December.

I guess it takes awhile for the promotion to come around.
