Well, we may not get Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight slugger Mark Hunt, unless he works out those pesky brain issues, but there’s no reason we can’t have interim middleweight champion and local hero Robert Whittaker.
The world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion recently announced plans to stage its UFC 221 pay-per-view (PPV) event inside Perth Arena in Western Australia, a first for UFC and its band of merry men.
“I’ve always loved Australia.” UFC President Dana White said in the official release. “The fans and energy are fantastic but most importantly we seem to have some of the greatest fights there. My job is to put on the best fights in the world and this is a place that never disappoints. I look forward to our first UFC event in Perth next year and hope to entertain the fans once again.”
The action takes place on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, but will air Saturday night in the United States due to the discrepancy in time zones. No fights have been announced at this time; however, you can expect that to change sooner, rather than later.
Looks like it’s going to be a busy first quarter.
