The UFC’s first pay-per-view of the year has been locked in for the Irish hotbed of Boston.

2018 is finally starting to shape up.

We're just two months away from the end of 2017, and the schedule is stacked with events between now and the end of the year. But things taper off seriously once 2018 begins ... or at least they do now as far as the announced schedule goes.

That's starting to change now. A few days ago the UFC confirmed a UFC Fight Night event in Belem, Brazil. And now they've confirmed their first pay-per-view event of the year will take place January 20th out of Boston, Massachusetts.

The news was confirmed via ESPN's Brett OKamoto, who reported "UFC's 2018 pay-per-view schedule will kick off in Boston, per Dana White. UFC 220 on Jan. 20. No fights have been announced yet."

But we're sure fans will twig to the location and wonder whether it increases the possibility that Conor McGregor may return for UFC 220. Boston is full of Irish and McGregor has fought twice in the city. His first appearance was in 2013 against Max Holloway (a fight that took place on the prelims), and then he defeated Dennis Siver via TKO in the main event on his second trip in 2015.

Now he may headline a pay-per-view in the city, although there's absolutely nothing driving this speculation other than the Irish connection to Boston and Dana White's unending optimism that McGregor is returning sooner rather than later.
