That was fast.
Roughly five months after announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA), former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight No. 1 contender, Anthony Johnson, is planning his Octagon return.
At heavyweight.
“He’ll come back as a heavyweight,” manager Ali Abdel-Aziz told The MMA Hour. “We’re meeting with UFC this week to see what he wants to do. Dana White really loves Anthony Johnson. How can you not love Anthony Johnson? He’s terrifying.”
The last time Johnson competed at heavyweight, someone got their jaw broken.
Before “Rumble” can step inside the Octagon, he’ll first need to complete six months of drug testing under the watchful eye of United Staes Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which could be a challenge considering what he’s been up to in his spare time.
Johnson — a former welterweight — returned to UFC in April 2014 and won six of his eight fights, five of them by way of brutal knockout. In fact, his only two defeats came at the hands of division champion Daniel Cormier, which could explain the jump to heavyweight.
Either that, or he was very, very itchy.
