The mixed martial arts (MMA) community continues to come together in the wake of Sunday night’s tragic shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, where a gunman opened fire and killed nearly 60 unsuspecting concertgoers while injuring over 500 others.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), headquartered in “Sin City,” has pledged $1 million to help the victims and this weekend’s UFC 216 pay-per-view (PPV) event, located in the nearby T-Mobile Arena, will continue as scheduled.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, one of the biggest names in combat sports, wasn’t always the biggest fan of Nevada, but put his issues with the commission aside to send his thoughts and prayers.
“Absolutely devastated upon hearing the news in Las Vegas,” McGregor wrote on Instagram. “A city with so much energy and life. A city of celebration and enjoyment. A city so close to my heart. I pray for all the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence.”
Barring a surprise return from top contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, McGregor is expected to face the winner of Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee, who fight for the interim lightweight strap at this weekend’s UFC 216 event.
