Georges St-Pierre on UFC early weigh ins: ‘I think it’s the worst thing they could do’

On the surface, having fighters weigh in earlier than they used to seems like a good thing. After all, more time to rehydrate means better performances inside the cage. But not every combatant is on board.

Including former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

“I think the new rule of doing the weigh-in earlier is bad because it makes the fighter cut more weight,” St-Pierre told MMA Junkie. “I think it’s the worst thing they could do. It’s good for rehydration because you have more time, but if you know you have more time, you’ll cut more weight. I think it’s bad. I think it’s very bad.”

Especially when you consider this ban.

St-Pierre will be required to hit the scale bright and early for his UFC 217 pay-per-view (PPV) main event next month in New York City, then trot himself back out for the ceremonial weigh ins later in the day.
