Georges St-Pierre doubles down on disinterest in fighting Conor McGregor

What’s next for GSP after UFC 217? Who knows, but he doesn’t seem interested in fighting Conor McGregor.

While Georges St-Pierre's return to the UFC isn't as hotly anticipated as you might expect, there's still some buzz behind rumors that he and Conor McGregor may scrap if GSP wins at UFC 217 on November 4th. But the hype there sounds more like wishful thinking than anything real. Georges shot down the possibility of them fighting before by saying he doesn't call out smaller fighters, and now here he is again with Sports Illustrated saying thanks but no thanks to a McGregor fight.

“Nah, I don’t look to set up a fight with Conor,” St-Pierre said. “I’m happy for Conor. He made a lot of money and deserved it. He raised the bar for everybody. He’s the most charismatic guy in MMA right now, the one who sells the most. I am happy for him. He deserve, he work hard for it.”

“I’m focusing on Michael Bisping. We’re in different weight class. I’m focusing on Michael Bisping, one step at a time and you never know what’s going to happen in MMA, you know? I’m not afraid of nobody. I’m very confident in my skill and what I can bring on the table but at the same time I focus on one step at a time, what is ahead of me. I made the mistake in the past of overthinking stuff and when you do that, things doesn’t happen the way you want and waste energy, what I think.”

Well, I feel like that may be a record for canned responses in a single statement. We can only hope that maybe behind St-Pierre's muted response is some big plans he's just keeping close to his chest right now. What happened to the GSP that promised to do the biggest fights available, with the hottest stock fighters?
