Sage Northcutt is a weird fighter for so many reasons. He never stops smiling. He respectfully calls everyone “sir” or “Mister” and does effortless flips and gainers after his fights, and rolls up frying pans. He has frosted tips in 2017. He’s gotten an inordinate amount of attention for an MMA fighter, including Chrissy Teigen laughing at his ability to crush fruit in his hands. He’s also just... weird.
He’s also unusually jacked, and that affords him opportunities outside of MMA he has taken full advantage of. These opportunities include sponsored appearances at events like the 2017 Arnold Classic, where he demonstrated his martial arts skills and grappled with gigantic bodybuilder Blessing Awodibu. Blessing moves very well for a guy his size, but he’s no match for Sage’s wrestling skills.

- Alright, so Juliana Pena almost named her daughter after Valentina Shevchenko, but didn’t because one judge voted Amanda Nunes way? Talk about the butterfly effect. This is such an odd world.
- Dana White went off on fans, calling them... well, I’ll just let you read it.
- TJ Dillashaw and Cub Swanson are opening a new kind of gym for professional fighters- a non-profit, where family and money won’t mix. It stands in stark contrast to Team Alpha Male, where Urijah Faber takes a cut from his fighters, but also calls his for-profit model a family. That was a big part of the Dillashaw-Faber beef after TJ left the team. It’s a fascinating idea, and will be interesting to see if it catches on.
