UFC Fight Night 118: Darren Till in no hurry for title shot after knocking out Cowboy Cerrone

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Gdansk-Cerrone vs Till Per Haljestam-USA TODAY Sports

Darren Till picked up the biggest win of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career by decimating Donald Cerrone in the very first round in the headlining act of UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland.

Still undefeated (16-0-1, 4-0-1 UFC), Till set himself on the fast track for bigger an better fights moving forward. But, he isn’t in a hurry to jump the championship line, as he prefers to be patient and let more deserving veterans waiting in line to get their shot, first.

“There’s so many more guys in front of me,” said Till during the post-fight presser via MMA Junkie, who has yet to crack the top 15 on the official UFC rankings list. “They need the shot first, and then when I get my shot, I’ll just take the champion out. But I’m certainly closer. I’ll ask for the title shot when I take the No. 2 guy out.”

Indeed, there are plenty of top contenders chomping at the bit for thier chance at gold. That said, there are plenty of fights for Till to take part in to prove his worth. Among them is a showdown against Mike Perry, as the two got into a war of words during Tills post-fight victory speech.

See it here.

While Till would love nothing more than to take Perry on, he knows “Platinum” has his hands more than full in his next outing, so he’ll cool off Perry for now.

“I didn’t call him out. (Perry) said ‘Cowboy’ was going to beat me on Twitter, and I said he wouldn’t. I was, in my mind, going to call out Mike Perry. But he got the fight booked with Santiago Ponzinibbio, who I want to fight as well. So I don’t really care about (Perry) now,” said Till.

“The fight can happen if he beats Santiago, which I don’t think he will do, and then we can get it on. But he has a fight right now, so I don’t really care."

Perry and Santiago are set to throw down at UFC on FOX 26 on Dec. 16, 2017, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After that, perhaps Till could face the winner in what is sure to be a hard-hitting affair, regardless who he faces.
